Eastman Kodak American Greenway Awards
SOURCE: The Kodak American Greenways Awards Program, a partnership project of the Eastman Kodak Company, The Conservation Fund, and the National Geographic Society, provides small grants to stimulate the planning and design of greenways in communities throughout America.
WHAT IS A GREENWAY?
Corridors or protected public and private land established along rivers, stream valleys, ridges, abandoned railroad corridors, utility right-of-ways, canals, scenic railroads, or other linear features. They link recreational, cultural and natural features; provide pathways for people and wildlife; protect forests, wetlands, and grasslands; and improve
the quality of life for everyone.
PURPOSE OF PROGRAM
- Develop new, action-oriented greenway projects.
- Assist grassroots greenway organizations.
- Leverage additional money for conservation and greenway development.
- Recognize and encourage greenway proponents and organizations.
ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS
Awards will primarily go to local, regional, or statewide nonprofit organizations. Although public agencies may also apply, community organizations will receive preference.
ELIGIBLE PROJECTS
Grants may be used for all appropriate expenses needed to complete a greenway project including planning, technical assistance, legal, and other costs.

- Design activities
- Developing brochures
- Interpretive displays
- Audio-visual productions
- Public opinion surveys
- Hiring consultants
- Incorporating land trusts
- Building a foot bridge
- Planning a bike path
- Other creative projects
FUNDING CRITERIA
Grant recipients are selected according to criteria that include:
- Importance of the project to local greenway development efforts.
- Demonstrated community support for the project.
- Extent to which the grant will result in matching funds or other support from public or private sources.
- Likelihood of tangible results.
- Capacity of the organization to complete the project
SUBMITTAL REQUIRED
Online application. No applications will be accepted by fax or email. Online applications should include all attachments.
GRANT AMOUNT
The maximum grant is $2,500. Most grants range from $500-$1,000.
APPLICATION DEADLINE
Check website for current information. Deadline was June 30 in 2011.
ACCEPTANCE NOTIFICATION
Announcements of awards will be made in the first week of September.
