Federal Recreational Trails Program
SOURCE: Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century

PURPOSE OF PROGRAM
To provide and maintain motorized and non-motorized recreational trails and trail-related projects.
ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS
Federal and state agencies; local governments; private individuals and organizations, if co-sponsored by a government agency.
FUNDING CRITERIA
- 20% match is required; may consist of cash, in-kind costs and labor for which a value can be documented, and funds available under other Federal funding programs.
- Proposed projects must be identified in, or further a goal of, the Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP); the Iowa Trails 2000 document; or a regional, county, or local plan
SUBMITTAL REQUIRED
The original and ten color hard copies of the completed application and all attachments must be submitted to the Iowa DOT.
APPLICATION DEADLINE
Postmarked by October 1.
TYPE OF APPROVAL REQUIRED
Iowa DOT staff recommendations with Iowa Transportation Commission approval.
ACCEPTANCE NOTIFICATION
Usually by February 1 (with funds available the following October)
