State Recreational Trails Program

PURPOSE OF PROGRAM
To fund public recreational trails.

ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS
State or local government agencies, cities, counties or non-profit organizations may sponsor applications.

FUNDING CRITERIA

• 25% local match is required.
• In-kind services and other state grants are NOT eligible as matching funds.
• Proposed projects must be a part of a local, area-wide, regional or statewide trail plan.
• Trails resulting from successful applications must be maintained as a public facility for a minimum of 20 years

SUBMITTAL REQUIRED
Seven copies of the completed application and all attachments must be submitted to the Iowa DOT.

APPLICATION DEADLINE
Postmarked by July 1.

TYPE OF APPROVAL REQUIRED
Iowa DOT staff recommendations with Iowa Transportation Commission approval.

ACCEPTANCE NOTIFICATION
Usually 3 months
