Jones County Conservation
Jones County Conservation staff involved school-aged youth in a prairie planting project at Central Park after participating in the Trees Forever training to increase youth involvement. They involved youth in the project by going into their classroom and describing the project and steps they would be taking to complete the project. They let the students know ahead of time what they would be doing and what would be expected of them. Then the students assisted with the actual planting. Jones County Conservation benefited by having many additional hands for planting. The students left with a good impression of the project and Jones County Conservation, and they developed a sense of ownership in the project. Jones County Conservation has a strong tradition of involving youth and they plan to continue in future projects.
