Municipal Community Tree Planting

For 20 years, Trees Forever has helped communities with local tree planting and forestry efforts. By providing funding and technical assistance, trees Forever empowers local volunteers to carry-out well-planned, volunteer-led, energy efficient reforestation and beautification projects. A nationally recognized and award-winning model, the program is a unique partnership between Trees Forever and both investor-owned and municipal utilities in Iowa.

The purpose of the Municipal Tree Planting Programs is to assist communities in developing tree planting programs through their local municipal utility provider.

Who is eligible to participate?

Currently, communities served by Denison Municipal Utilities, Manning Natural Gas, Muscatine Power & Water Company, and Waverly Light & Power benefit from this program.

Each community has committee of citizens that organizes a local tree program. Other municipal utilities interested in setting up a program can contact Trees Forever.

The goal of the Municipal Program is to:

• improve the local environment by replacing trees at a greater rate than are being lost
• educate citizens about the value of trees
• involve citizens in the program
• promote the long-term care and maintenance of newly planted and existing trees in the community

What assistance or services are provided through this program?

Trees Forever channels funds from the municipal utility to a local tree planting organization. Trees Forever also provides education and technical assistance to the local organization to help them establish a successful tree planting program.
