We Dig Your District

The purpose of We Dig Your DistrictTM is:
 • to increase the number of tree plantings in Cedar Rapids,
• to improve the environment, conserve energy,
• to raise awareness among the public and city council about the importance of trees in our community, and
• to educate about Trees Forever and the services we offer, and of Alliant Energy’s environmental initiatives.

These goals are achieved through tree planting events in the five city council districts each year which involve site partners, the public, city council members, Alliant Energy and Trees Forever.

Who is eligible to participate?
Anyone can nominate a site owned by the public or a non-profit organization in Alliant’s territory within Cedar Rapids with a demonstrated need for trees.  Nominations for 2010 are no longer being accepted. Nominations for 2011 will be accepted in January 2011.

The goals of We Dig Your District include:

• healthy trees that improve the local environment and reduce the need for heating and/or cooling at a site,
• a greater awareness of the benefits of trees, and
• a closer working relationship between Trees Forever, community members, city council members and Alliant Energy.

What assistance or services are provided through this program?
Trees Forever works with site partners to plan and carry out a tree planting at their site. Trees Forever will help to design the planting, order trees, and organize the event. Alliant Energy provides funding for the trees and the event at each site.

What is the application deadline?
Nominations for 2011 will be accepted in January 2011.

Thanks to the sponsor Alliant Energy.
