Resource Enhancement and Protection (REAP) Day at the Capitol

Thursday, March 12, 2009
The REAP Alliance organizes an annual day at the capitol for supporters to talk with their legislators about the importance of continuing to fund Iowa’s Resource Enhancement and Protection (REAP) program. Trees Forever has directly benefitted from REAP grants for the Growing Futures program. In addition, a portion of the Living Roadway Trust Fund (LRTF) pool of funding comes from REAP, and Trees Forever has been a long-time partner of LRTF, receiving funding from it for the Stewards of the Beautiful Land program, partial funding for the Iowa’s Living Roadways Projects program, and also for our work with community volunteers to promote the use of native plants in trail and roadside projects. Finally, many of the communities we work with in the Iowa’s Living Roadways Community Visioning and other programs go on to receive grants from REAP to develop city parks, trails, and recreational amenities. Trees Forever staff will be attending the REAP day to help bring the message to Iowa elected officials of the many benefits REAP has provided to Iowa communities and citizens.
