Volunteers are needed on October 5th, to help twenty new Habitat for Humanity homeowners and their families plant trees in their yards and neighborhoods. These trees will add beauty and value to the homes and neighborhood, and their shade will provide energy savings and environmental benefits for years to come.
The event will start at the Habitat for Humanity homes located next to each other at 1232 and 1236 10th Street, Des Moines. Volunteers should arrive at 9:45 a.m. to register for the planting event. The event will begin with a kick-off celebration at 10:00, followed by a planting demonstration. Volunteers will be given maps to guide them to other Habitat homes where tree plantings will occur. Volunteers should dress for the weather and should wear close-toed shoes. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own tools (shovels, rakes, wheel barrows, etc.), but must mark them and keep track of them. Additional tools will be provided. Volunteers are asked to return to the kick-off site after their plantings are finished, to return any tools and enjoy some refreshments.
This NeighborWoods planting event is sponsored by Habitat for Humanity, Trees Forever, The Home Depot Foundation, the Alliance for Community Trees and the Brenton Family Foundation.
