Due to unforeseen wet weather conditions, the Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers has postponed their Nursery Training workshop to August 13. All nursery and landscape professionals interested in learning more about the Green Farmstead Partner program are encouraged to reconsider attending the workshop on the new date.
This Green Farmstead Partner program training session will provide resources and information to nursery and landscape professionals to help them more effectively work with farmers to install vegetative buffers around livestock barns. This event will be held on August 13, 2010 at the Iowa Soybean Association Office in Ankeny.
A variety of speakers will be on hand to address many topics including: Dr. John Tyndall of Iowa State University on vegetative buffer research, animal husbandry issues, and building issues; Mark Pingenot and Roger Hunt with Trees Forever on proper species selection, and computer design and concept training; and Dana Holland with the National Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) on NRCS Viable Programs.

There are many benefits for a nursery or landscaping business to participate in the Green Farmstead Partner program. Once the training session has been completed, the Coalition will list each business’ contact information on the Green Farmstead Partner program website. Additionally, for each farmer who participates in the Green Farmstead Partner program by requesting a sign, the participating nursery will receive $250 from the Coalition for farmer assistance.
