As in 2009, the Iowa Prairie Network has requested and received a proclamation from the Governor’s office to make Iowa Prairie Heritage Week official. The dates are September 12-18. The reason for re-establishing this week is to promote an awareness and appreciation of Iowa's prairies.
Iowans are asked to schedule events during this special week, or sometime in September, that will help introduce new people to prairies. The events can be walks, hikes, or indoor talks about anything related to prairie. Libraries should be encouraged to have an exhibit to feature their prairie-related books. Consider targeting audiences of adults, school children, or all ages.
