Environmental Lobby Day, Des Moines, IA

Thursday, February 03, 2011
February 3, 2011 is Environmental Lobby Day. Drop in at the Capitol anytime between 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. to talk with legislators about Iowa’s most pressing environmental issues. Iowa Environmental Council staff will be available to provide lobbying guidance to participants and to speak to youth groups who come to participate. Bring your environmental concerns, but also plan to learn about the Council’s current legislative priorities at a press conference at 11 a.m. that day.

Lawmakers tell us over and over again that they need to hear from Iowans who live in their districts—not just the organizations that represent them. Please plan to attend and to let your state Senator and Representative know in advance, that you plan to visit them on February 3.

NEVER LOBBIED OR VISITED YOUR ELECTED OFFICIALS BEFORE? NO PROBLEM.

An informal workshop on how to lobby will be offered the evening before Lobby Day, on Wednesday, February 2, 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m., at the Iowa Environmental Council, 521 East Locust, Suite 220 in Des Moines. You are invited to attend. There is no fee, but pre-registration is required. If there is interest, a 1-hour workshop on writing Letters to the Editor will follow at 7:30 p.m. Deadline for registering for the workshops is Monday, January 24. Register for the workshop by calling Lynn Laws at 515-244-1194, ext 210.
