The 2012 Upper Midwest Hazelnut Growers Conference will be held at the historic Hotel Winneshiek in beautiful Decorah IA March 2nd & 3rd.
Friday March 2nd is geared towards new or prospective growers, as well as those wishing to brush up on the basics. This Hazelnuts 101 course from 1:00 to 5:00 will highlight all the basics and real growers will be present to answer questions. Instructors from Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin will cover topics such as site preparation, soil testing, planting, management and care, harvesting, and more.
A full day of the latest research updates, informative presentations, and stimulating discussion are planned for Saturday March 3rd. A processing demonstration and trade show is planned for Saturday afternoon and possibly Friday evening to showcase the latest in processing techniques and equipment at different scales.
A noon lunch is provided for Saturday and participants are encouraged to bring their favorite hazelnut treat to share on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.
